This year\u2019s theme, \u201cIn This Together,\u201d resonates now more than ever amid COVID-19, and serves as a timely reminder of how important coming together as a community is for both our resilience and journey to healing as a nation.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSo, why is National Reconciliation Week important, and how can you get involved?<\/p>\n<h2>\n\tThe Significance of National Reconciliation Week<\/h2>\n<p>\n\tNational Reconciliation Week is bookended by the anniversaries of two important milestones in our reconciliation journey: the successful referendum where two parts of the Constitution that excluded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were amended (27th May 1967), and the High Court Mabo decision, which legally acknowledged First Nations people as traditional custodians of Australia for the first time (3rd June 1992).<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThese historic dates still hold significance today, reminding us of the impact we can have when we join together as one to stand up for what\u2019s right.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t2020 Campaign \u2013 In This Together<\/h2>\n<p>\n\tDedicated to growing respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous Australians, this year\u2019s theme is centred around communities, organisations and individuals uniting in the spirit of reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tEach of us has a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and by collectively working to build understanding and respect, we can create a brighter future with a society that truly values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\tHow Can You Get Involved?<\/h2>\n<p>\n\tToday, National Reconciliation Week is celebrated by organisations, education providers and individuals across the country, with hundreds of events taking place \u2013 big and small!
